About Us

After years of working in the surf industry, Bali Retreats grew organically after a chance encounter in 2002 on a girls shopping trip to Bali. Bali Retreats Director Jon was a surf guide in Samoa working for Savaii Surfaris and Atoll Travel for a period of time and the owner of Micks Place a gorgeous boutique hotel in Bali heard of his reputation as great guide and offered him a stint as manager at his hotel.

Perfect timing as Lorraine, former head women's designer at Billabong for eight years, needed a break from the manic rag trade. The time in Bali was spent rejuvenating with daily massages and yoga.

Bali Retreats was born in the spare bedroom with daughter Leilani being juggled on one knee. When we first started out we had underground surf favourites like Mick's Place, as well as a few private luxury villas in Bingin which has become our second home. Bukit Peninsula visionary and owner of Micks Place, Michael Fogarty has supported our business since its infancy, encouraging us to seek out new and interesting areas to offer our clients. We have now graduated to the 'office' set up in the granny flat of our house and have staff who are passionate about surfing, Bali and travel Megan and Kyle.

As our name suggests we specialise in Bali and Indonesia. Our core business is boutique, unique hotels and villas in great surf locations all over the islands of Bali, Lombok and Gili Islands. With 7 years experience in Bali we pride ourselves in knowing about the destinations we book intimately and make sure that you have all the tips to enhance your holiday, where to shop, great spas, the hot bars and restaurants.

Although our focus will always be in unique boutique accommodation, out of necessity we also book all the main stream resorts Indonesia has to offer. Earlier this year we obtained our travel license which has opened the doors to more destinations, flights, travel insurance and much more.

Whether it is surf industry marketing conferences or photo shoots right through to yoga retreats, weddings or family holidays; all our styling pads are suitable for more mature crew who prefer to live life at a slower pace, saving energy for hitting the waves instead of the hammering the bars and nightclubs in town.
